MYTHS YOU CAN OWN IN SLOT FORM: LE MANS & CAN-AM CARS

Dear reader,

With the arrival of autumn, and the drop in temperatures, one feels cool…. relieved…. can even think clearly, becomes optimistic. And with the beneficial effect of being able to breathe oxygen, you even become generous, and decide to write an article again with which to share something cool about this hobby that we are all passionate about.

To do this, on this occasion, I look at some slot examples acquired at different times, without a clear idea of classification in mind, but due to the character of each of them, they are worthy of being part of any self-respecting collection. And in addition, in more than one club they take part in races in classic categories (either Le Mans, Can Am, etc…).

If we talk about Can-Am or Le Mans, and we put names like Slot.it, NSR, Thunderslot and MrSlotCar into the recipe, we know that the staging is going to be spectacular without a doubt. Let’s give some examples.

We are talking about none other than the UOP Shadow DN4 MrSlotCar, Ferrari 350 CanAm ThunderSlot, Lola T70 ThunderSlot (open & closed cabin versions), Ford P68 NSR, Ferrari 512M Slot.it and Porsche 917K from NSR. First of all, it should be clarified that there are some missing in this session. We will expand on this topic in future articles. I know that more than one is going to ask me, what about the Ford GT40? And the Ferrari 330? They will appear soon in a separate entry…

The first impression as a fan when you put these specimens on your track or that of the club, is that you are contemplating rolling sculptures. I’m not going to fall into clichés repeated ad nauseam about it, just that as soon as you’re a car enthusiast, these cars are captivating. They catch your eye instantly. Form and function, spectacularity, and a point of art come together.

These manufacturers make available to us for usual prices, reproductions with a level of quality and dynamism that invite us to consider taking them out of the showcase, to give us the pleasure that they are not just façade.

For those of us who usually go to the club, we know that these units, with adequate tuning around the usual short-can motor & internals in these units (the Slot.it, NSR and Thunder engines are already known and of proven solvency), can give more than one scare to theoretically faster cars.

Let’s not be fooled by its classic look; they reproduce old models but because of their track ride (whether Ninco, Scaleauto or Policar), they are authentic giant killers. They will put our typical LMP/GT with long-can mechanics in trouble no matter how much 3D chassis and exotic components it has.

These cars make up an ideal category in clubs to recreate classic motorsport, but without losing an ounce of speed on the track. In the club of which I am a member (Costablanca-Alicante), these cars are part of a category called LMC (Le Mans Classics, although they also accommodate Can-Am cars, such as the Thunder). It is one of the most fun, exciting and demanded categories of the staff.

This is where this dose of classic motorsport ends. I hope you liked it, and in the best case, participating in a race of this category.

Thanks for taking the time to read this entry, and see you in the next one!
